When I was younger and just starting to get into hunting we had some friends that hunted with my family. We have some property that is divided by a river and used to use a canoe to get across. One year we had temperatures in the subzero range for the opener and the river had froze out from the banks so that the only way to get the canoe in the river was to slide it out on the ice and then climb in once it was in the water. My dad and two of the family friends were going to go across the river opening morning and my dad slide the canoe out to open water and the two friends decided to follow after him and before he could tell them to come out one at a time, the ice broke sending all three of them into the water (it is only about knee deep). My dad jumped back out of the water and onto safe ice and because of his coveralls ended up not getting wet, but our friedns just stood there in dis-belief. They had to go back in to the house to dry out and warm up. Ever since then, we've teased them about going across the river in old submarine. I still laugh every time I go across the river to hunt.
